Who you’ll meet

• WiggleWax — a crayon kitten who notices when the world is missing a color.

• The color friends — Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, who help put the rainbow back together.

Free rainbow activities for parents and preschoolers

Turn The Missing Rainbow into a short, playful conversation about colors and friendship. These activities work at home or in a preschool group, with a grown-up's help.

1. Make a rainbow together

Use crayons and paper. Invite your child to choose a color, then take turns adding colors to one rainbow. Say each color aloud: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. It is fine to use the closest colors you have.

For younger children, start with three colors and name them together. Older preschoolers can arrange all seven. Notice how each person's part helps make the whole picture.

2. Talk about the story

• Why did the colors stop working together?
• What changed when the colors helped each other?
• What is something we can make or do together today?

There is no need for a perfect answer. Let your child point, draw, or tell you what they noticed.

3. Color your own rainbow

Print the free, one-page coloring sheet in black and white. Color the seven bands, or make a rainbow of your own. A grown-up can read the color guide and conversation prompts.
